IBO Player: activation, MAC address and device key, step by step

The Chouf Digital team 5 min read

IBO Player is the app we recommend most often on Samsung and LG TVs. It is simple, stable, and above all you don’t have to type anything with the remote: you just send us two IDs shown on the screen, and we do the rest remotely. With a 12-month plan, one year of IBO Player activation is even included. Here is how it works, step by step, and how to sort out the rare cases where something gets stuck.

What exactly is IBO Player?

IBO Player is a player, not a channel provider. Once installed, it is empty: the developer says so itself — no channels are included in the app. Your Chouf Digital subscription is what gets added to it and fills it. Think of it like a music player: the app plays, the content comes from elsewhere.

It is also an app that is independent of Chouf Digital, published by another company. We don’t make it; we set it up for you.

Which devices it runs on

The developer lists IBO Player on the main platforms: Samsung and LG (webOS) TVs, Android and Android TV, Amazon Fire TV Stick, Apple TV and iPhone, as well as Windows and Mac.

Whatever you use, install it from your device’s official store: your Samsung TV’s app store, the LG Content Store, the Play Store, the Amazon Appstore or Apple’s App Store. If your device isn’t on that list, message us before buying anything: we check compatibility with you — that is exactly what it’s for. For device-specific settings, our Samsung, LG, other Smart TV, Fire Stick and Android guides cover each one in detail.

Step 1 — Install the app

Open your device’s app store, search for “IBO Player”, install it and launch it. On first launch, the app automatically starts a 7-day trial period. There is nothing to pay at this point, and nothing to set up.

Step 2 — Note the MAC address and the device key

This is the only step that needs your attention. As soon as it opens, IBO Player shows two IDs on the screen:

  • the MAC address (sometimes called “Mac ID”): a string of numbers and letters in pairs, separated by colons, for example 00:1A:2B:3C:4D:5E;
  • the device key: a shorter code, specific to your device.

The easiest thing is to take a photo of the screen with your phone. A photo rules out copying mistakes — and a single wrong character is enough to block the activation.

Step 3 — Send them to us on WhatsApp

Send us the photo, or the two IDs typed out, in the WhatsApp conversation where you placed your order. On our side, we activate IBO Player on your device and add your subscription to it. You have no link to enter, no login to remember, and nothing to type with the remote.

Step 4 — Restart and watch

When we confirm it’s done, close IBO Player completely and open it again. Your channels, films and series appear. If they don’t on the first try, unplug the TV for about thirty seconds, then switch it back on: that is the most common reason a first load doesn’t go through.

1, 3 or 6-month plans: what changes

The 12-month IBO Player activation is included with annual plans only, Premium 4K or VIP 4K. With a 1, 3 or 6-month plan, everything works the same way during the app’s 7-day trial; after that, you buy the licence yourself, directly from the developer, on its official website. If you’d rather avoid that licence, other players exist: we tell you on WhatsApp which one suits your device best.

Common problems and how to fix them

“I’ve lost my device key.” No problem: it is always shown in the app, on your device. Open IBO Player again and it reappears.

“The MAC address changed after a reset or an update.” This happens, especially after a TV factory reset. The activation isn’t lost: IBO Player has a recovery feature. Send us the new MAC address; we send you a code to enter in the app under Settings → Device Recovery. Your activation, your list and your expiry date are then moved to the new ID.

“I’m changing TV.” The activation can be moved to a new device, but only once, under the developer’s rules. Tell us before you switch, so that this one-time transfer is done at the right moment and on the right device.

“The app opens but the list is empty, or the screen stays black.” First check that the MAC address on screen is the one you sent us: if it has changed, see the case above. Otherwise, update the app from the store, restart the device, and try another channel. If the problem only happens in the evening, our article on IPTV buffering at night goes through the eight most common causes.

“A message says the trial has ended.” If you have an annual plan, it means the activation hasn’t been done yet on that specific device — often because the MAC address changed. Send us a photo of the screen and we’ll look at it straight away.

Two precautions before you start

Always install IBO Player from your device’s official store, never a file downloaded from an unknown website. A modified app may not work, may stop working overnight, or may put your device at risk.

Watch out for websites with similar names. Several sites use names close to the app’s and sell “activations”. The developer’s official website is iboplayer.com. If you have an annual plan with us, there is nothing to buy anyway: the activation is included.

Finally, there is a separate app called IBO Player Pro. If that is the one you installed, tell us before the activation and we’ll check with you what applies.

In short

Install IBO Player from the official store, take a photo of the screen, send it to us on WhatsApp, then restart the app. That’s it. And if you don’t have a subscription yet, start with the free 24-hour trial: it is set up in exactly the same way, and you judge the quality at home before choosing your plan.
